Mary in the Junkyard

Mary in the Junkyard tell us about their ‘weird and wonderful’ debut album

Mary in the Junkyard have a lot to look forward to this year – from a headline tour across the UK, Europe and North America, to the release of their debut album, the London trio are making the most of their rising popularity.

Speaking to Erazer moments after their performance at Wanderlust 2026, the band’s vocalist and guitarist Clari Freeman-Taylor told us how much she loves festivals.

“We have friends who we only see at festivals really so it’s nice to catch up with them,” she said. “They are a great chance to find music.”

Together with drummer David Addison and bassist Saya Barbaglia (who also rocks the viola), Mary in the Junkyard were the talk of the town as they took to the stage in Southampton.

Role Model Hermit, the debut album, will be released July 3 through AMF Records, and fans can expect ‘different spectrums of energies,’ as Barbaglia put it.

“It’s weird and wonderful,” she said, with Addison adding that the band spent ‘a couple of months in a very cavernous studio’ and ‘just had fun.’

‘It explores lots of different genres and sounds but I think altogether there’s a storytelling theme,” he said.

“The theme is truth,” Freeman-Taylor noted. “That’s the truth of the matter.”

Many will have discovered Mary in the Junkyard through their support slots with Isle of Wight indie icons Wet Leg, who they toured with in 2025.

“They’re very wonderful people,” Freeman-Taylor said about the Chaise Longue hitmakers. “It was very inspiring.”

A highlight of the tour was performing at the prestigious O2 Academy Brixton, a show the group all loved.

“It had a great ceiling to play to, and lots of reverb,” Freeman-Taylor said.

The band’s latest single New Muscles is out now, and comes ahead of a tour across the UK, Europe and North America.

The band will perform in Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester and London, before hitting the road across the States.

Addison said the group had some writing time recently, and were hoping to record demos soon. He also said they’ll be working on rehearsals for the tour.

“We haven’t fully figured out how we’re going to do some of the songs on the new album live,” he said. “I’m excited for it to develop in a live context.”
