piri & Tommy

piri & tommy debut project announced

Hotly-tipped duo piri & tommy have announced details of their debut project. froge.mp3 will see a release on Polydor Records on October 21st, featuring latest single ‘on & on’ (their fastest moving track to date), viral favourites like ‘soft spot’ and ‘words’, plus more from the UK’s most exciting breakout act.

Having stormed the UK festival season this summer with packed-out sets at the likes of Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds, piri & tommy have also announced details of a headline tour for November. The run of dates features their second headline London show thus far at Scala on November 8th, in addition to appearances at Pitchfork Paris and Manchester Warehouse Project.

An affecting, playful and eclectic body of work, froge.mp3 soundtracks not only piri & tommy’s remarkable journey thus far. It’s also a vivid snapshot of British pop and youth culture right now, in all its excitement, uncertainty and euphoria. Channelling sounds and stories as they’ve evolved, in real-time, over the pandemic, their hugely accomplished first project finds piri & tommy at the front of a thrilling new wave in pop music.

For piri, froge.mp3 is basically:

“a diary of the first year tommy and I have been making music, and pretty much the first year of us knowing each other at all. Each song (in both lyrics and vibe) captures a different point in time of our journey, and the different experiences and emotions we were going through. We really wanted to avoid guiding or limiting ourselves too much during the creative process: we made whatever we felt like, just for fun, and I can definitely feel that energy of us enjoying being creative and with no pressure when listening back. It’s so cool having a collection of tracks to document parts of our lives in that way, like a little time capsule.”

tommy, meanwhile, describes how:

“every single track was an experiment. This was the first time I’ve been entirely responsible for producing an entire record, it’s been super fun to make and I’ve learned so much about producing just by doing this. Every track had a different challenge and I’m proud that all of them have individuality, through different genres, instrumentations, writing styles and production techniques. I just want everyone to enjoy this project: we poured our hearts and souls into these songs, roll on project 2!!!”

Having met over DM and been thrown together in a student-house bubble during lockdown, piri & tommy have since amassed co-signs ranging from Charli XCX, Bella Hadid and Bimini to Rebecca Black and PinkPantheress, as well as reaching number 1 on Tiktok and earning their first playlist at Radio 1. Assimilating everything from the DIY Dance explosion online to their generation’s relationship with nostalgia – both, as exploded by the pandemic – the duo mix genre-wide influences from Kaytranada and Disclosure to Doja Cat and Red Velvet. Lyrically exploring everything from that awkward crush (‘soft spot’) to that first summer of freedom (‘on & on’), as well as the importance of communication (‘words’), froge.mp3 is the no-filter story of piri & tommy so far…but it’s also just the start of their story to come.

Tickets go on sale for piri & Tommy’s headline tour on September 30th at 10am – details can be found here.
