Nile Rodgers & CHIC – Southampton Summer Sessions

With the sun setting behind Southampton Guildhall, a summer Sunday evening was transformed by the sound of Disco. With the sunshine, Deco and Sophie Ellis-Bextor warming up the crowd superbly, the crowd were eager for the headliners.

Before Nile Rogers and Chic took to the stage, Nile was clearly visible in the wings, singing along to the classic disco tracks playing over the superb sound system. Even before the introductions started, he had eased his way onto stage, encouraged by the crowd, smiling and singing along while waving to the excited audience. There can be no doubt that he was looking forward to getting the show started. The rest of the band soon followed, and, from the first few bars of Le Freak, played on his trademark white Fender, the crowd were in the palm of his hand.

A Nile Rodgers and Chic summer concert is like being transported to the golden era of disco, enhanced by modern flair. The concert was an electrifying celebration of classic hits and infectious grooves.

Nile Rogers has such charisma and such mastery of his art. His guitar work was exceptional, blending intricate rhythms with soulful melodies that energized the crowd from the outset.
Chic’s performance was a showcase of exceptional musicianship. Each member, from vibrant brass to the precise rhythm section, played with perfect cohesion and obvious enthusiasm. The two wonderful vocalists who flanked Nile on stage delivered powerhouse performances, their voices harmonizing flawlessly with Nile’s guitar and the band’s rich instrumentation.

The setlist was a journey through iconic songs like “Le Freak,” “Good Times,” and “Everybody Dance,” prompting sing-alongs and non-stop dancing.

Nile Rodgers and Chic connected effortlessly with the audience, and he showed sincere gratitude to the fans of all ages. This made the concert not just a performance but a shared, unforgettable experience.

In short, a Nile Rodgers and Chic summer concert is a must-see for music lovers, a euphoric celebration of timeless music and the unifying power of live performance.
