Following some mysterious social media posts, LCD Soundsystem have confirmed their return to the UK in 2024.
LCD Soundsystem will headline Uber One presents All Points East on Friday 23 August 2024. Joining them are an exceptional supporting line-up including elusive pop phenomenon Jai Paul, alt-rock legends Pixies, plus Floating Points, Jockstrap, Nation of Language, Sofia Kourtesis (Live), Eyedress and Vagabon, with more names to be revealed. This news follows previously announced headliner Loyle Carner (Saturday 17 August).
LCD Soundsystem are one of the US’s most acclaimed and influential bands. Starting out in 2002 and driven by the vision of James Murphy, they released multiple singles in the lead up to their acclaimed self-titled debut – including the signature song ‘Losing My Edge’ and the timeless ‘Daft Punk Is Playing At My House’.
Their sophomore album, 2007’s Sound of Silver, garnered even more critical praise and topped multiple best-of-the-year lists, putting LCD Soundsystem firmly at the head of the neo-disco class. With tracks like ‘New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down’ showing their more poignant side, the record is also home to ‘All My Friends’, named by Pitchfork as the second-greatest song of the entire 2000s.
The band became a huge live draw over the years and, after the release of their third studio album, This Is Happening, their first Top 10 album in the US, LCD Soundsystem sold out Madison Square Garden in 2011 for a farewell show. To fans’ delight, they re-formed, and returned with the vintage-sounding American Dream in 2017.
In the years that followed, the band played multiple concert residencies, including a six-night stint at Brixton’s O2 Academy in 2022. That same year they cranked out ‘New Body Rhumba’, a dancefloor-filling single with their trademark sharp edge. This year, James Murphy explained that the band were stepping out of the usual touring cycle and recently announced 12 dates around New York City, leaving them time to also work on new music, while promising, “Maybe we’ll just play other places next year, moving around to cities we like to play, where we’re wanted, etc.”
Always in demand in London, having headlined at All Points East’s first year in 2018, LCD Soundsystem never disappoint, and we cannot wait to welcome them back to Victoria Park next summer.
Joining the line-up is British-Indian singer Jai Paul. Hailing from Rayners Lane in London, Jai Paul’s career has been defined by mystery – dropping an exquisite demo of glitchy, outlandish pop in 2010, ‘BTSTU’ became a sensation before its’ official release a year later. A leaked body of work, Bait Ones, followed in 2013, prompting a hiatus, with Paul returning in 2019 with a new double single entitled ‘Do You Love Her Now / He’. He performed live for the very first time in 2023, his two London shows met with great critical reception including NME: “it’s hard to overstate quite how good Paul’s voice actually sounds live. There’s the echo and reverb we’ve come to expect from the records, but hearing is believing.” His set at All Points East will be his first UK festival performance.
An incredible day of music gets even better, with the addition of Pixies, one of the most influential and pioneering bands of the late 80s alt/rock movement. The four-piece, made up of Black Francis, Joey Santiago, David Lovering and Paz Lanchantin have eight genre-defining studio albums; including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa, the iconic Doolittle, which is considered one of the all-time quintessential alt/rock albums, and their latest release 2022’s Doggerel. The group have served as a major influence for a multitude of great artists such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and previous APE headliners The Strokes, among countless others. With sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies’ live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi. No two Pixies shows are ever the same – their All Points East set will not be one to miss.
Sam Shepherd pka Floating Points has spent the great part of 2023 composing his first ballet for symphony orchestra and electronics. ‘Mere Mortals’ will be performed by the San Francisco Ballet, premiering in January 2024. In September the audience at a packed Hollywood Bowl witnessed Shepherd perform his Mercury Prize nominated masterpiece Promises. Shepherd assembled an all-star cast of players that included Shabaka Hutchings, Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Dan Snaith (Caribou), Kara Lis Coverdale and Hinako Omori with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson conducting. The album which features Pharoah Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra was Pitchfork’s highest rated of 2021 as well as being named ‘Album of the Year’ by MOJO and Time Magazine, and being hailed as “one of the greatest modern jazz albums” by Resident Advisor. His latest single ‘Birth4000’ couldn’t be more different sonically to these pursuits in its crunchy, gnarled, all-out energy. A “knuckle-dragging club bruiser” (Pitchfork) and “’an undeniable order to dance” (Guardian) the single had a lasting impact on dancefloors and festival sets around the globe. In 2024 Shepherd will tour his explosive show full of immediate, spontaneous energy that immerses people in the music and brings them together on the dancefloor.
On the bill is Nation of Language who, since the release of their debut album Introduction, Presence in 2020, have attracted a rapidly growing, international audience via their danceable and impassioned take on new wave and post-punk traditions. The trio now have three critically acclaimed albums to their name, and will make their All Points East debut next summer. Plus Sofia Kourtesis (Live), Peru-born but based in Berlin, a string of rapturously received EPs and singles made her one of the fastest rising stars in the electronic world. Her jubilant and bold debut album Madres came out just last month, earning high praise from critics and fans alike.
Also announced today is Eyedress, the Manila-born/Los Angeles-based musician, who broke through with his 2019 single ‘Jealous’, which unexpectedly went viral amassing more than 250 million Spotify streams, achieving platinum status. Fast forward to his latest record, 2022’s FULL TIME LOVER, which shows the full scope of Eyedress’ talent as a singer, songwriter, rapper and producer. Additionally Vagabon, pseudonym for producer, songwriter, Laetitia Tamko, will take to the All Points East stage. The Cameroon-born, New York-based artist emerged from the Brooklyn DIY scene and became part of the new indie-rock vanguard after the release of her debut album, 2017’s Infinite Worlds. Now on her third record Vagabon explores her electro-pop side with Sorry I Haven’t Called, released in September this year.
Each year, All Points East delivers an epic line up of world class headliners, exceptionally curated supporting line ups and big exclusives. 2024 will be no different – already announced in addition to LCD Soundsystem is one of the UK’s defining rappers, Loyle Carner, who will headline the festival on Saturday 17 August.
