25 Years Later: Jimmy Eat World Prove Their Music Still Matters
Summer concerts don’t get much more picturesque than a sold out show at Cardiff Castle, but when the sun is shining and fans from all generations join together for a sell out show you know that its going to be hell of a performance! The highly anticipated sold out show drove us back to the past for a nostalgic night to remember with headliners Jimmy Eat World who were supported by Jay Som, The Get Up Kids and Rise Against.
The summer of 2026 has marked a historical milestone for one of the most influential bands since forming in 1993, and they have no signs of slowing down. The 25th Anniversary of the album Bleed American was celebrated in style, and thousands of people were witness to this achievement.
The first act of the night was the American song writer and producer, Jay Som (with the band). This was the perfect warm up in a warm summer evening. Despite the heat the band performed beautifully and even if the audience were less familiar with the band or their songs, they drew them in through their set. Moving around the crowd, there was something pretty nostalgic about the audience wearing faded band tour t-shirts from previous tours and standing next to younger fans potentially seeing their first live concert!
Next up were the band The Get Up Kids, this second wave emo band from Kansas City formed in 1995, with their slightly heavier set they continue to prove that even after a three year hiatus they were on their top form and they will not be going anywhere any time soon! Despite Jimmy Eat World headlining the show, The Get Up Kids proved that they were more than capable of running the show, and next to take to the stage were punk rock band Rise Against. The Chicago four piece band were a hit for the audience, delivering an explosive set and high energy atmosphere, they were certainly the perfect addition to an already stacked lineup.
By the time that Jimmy Eat World took to the stage, the anticipation was smothering. The band immediately had thousands of voices joining in with the songs. Twenty five years after Bleed American was first released, it remains as on of the defining albums of the era, and hearing songs such as ‘The Middle’ performed in the walls of the beautiful Cardiff Castle felt memorable in its own way. The feeling of nostalgia was at its peak throughout the crowd, with older generations listening with newer. Jimmy Eat World have always had a remarkable stage presence, with Jim Adkins on vocals its hard not to feel the emotions of the music along with the rest of the band. It was clear by the reactions of individuals throughout the crowd that Jimmy Eat World has been so much more than a band that they follow, and it shows how much they mean to people 25 years later.
As the final notes of ‘23’ rang out across Cardiff Castle, there was a realisation and overwhelming feeling that it was so much more than just a summer gig. This was a celebration of one of the biggest bands in history and their progress, a band whose influence continues even after three decades of being formed. The audience were given a chance to celebrate and relive a part of their past that was tucked away, whilst making new memories of their own with the generations to come.
