Gengahr have shared new single ‘A Ladder’, the band’s first new music in more than two years. Debuted by Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1, ‘A Ladder’ drips with the quiet confidence of a band that have always found rich purpose in the act of creating.
The Gengahr gift for penning smart, sophisticated, earworm singles has long been common knowledge. Their 2020 single ‘Heavenly Maybe’ was playlisted on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, Radio X – winning further accolades as both BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record in The World and Greg James’ Tune of The Week – with the album Sanctuary featuring as Album Of The Day on 6 Music, Jack Saunders’ Album For The Weekend on BBC Radio 1 and Album Of The Week on Amazing Radio.
‘A Ladder’ could very well signal a new but no less glittering dawn for Gengahr. A clear embracing of wide-eyed, youthful wonderlust permeates their latest offering and a sense of escapism, naivety and clarity form the bonds that give it a playful pop power. Glancing back to more innocent times, while keeping an eye firmly on their future evolution, Gengahr break their silence with as intoxicating a single as they’ve ever written.
Frontman Felix Bushe comments: “A Ladder is a fun, trippy little song soaked in cartoon-like imagery. Essentially it’s about the power of true love and its ability to not only change the way we feel but also the way we see and interact with the whole world around us.”
