Photo Review: BBC Radio 2 in the Park

A weekend to remember, full of singing, dancing, laughter and all-around good time! The vibes were just right in Highlands Park, Chelmsford, and the sun got the message, too! The fact that the main gate was actually closer to my front door than the main stage was a big bonus (none of that standard festival traffic for me!) and to be walking the dog round the park one week to be then shouting Def Leppard anthems on the same grounds for their first ever (and probably last) performance in Chelmsford not long after feels unbelievable to me!

With stars of the noughties all the way back to the 80s, there was a sing-along for everyone. Evidently, a lot more pop than you would expect for me to be at, but we can all have a guilty pleasure!

Self Esteem – Brighton Centre

Self Esteem live is not just a gig. It’s high art.  It’s theatre. There are acts, costume changes, extremely energetic choreography that combines a combination of hand maid tale aesthetic, impressive light shows, use of cinematography and classic school furniture props from the humble stackable chair to the versatile PE balance bench.

CKY – The 1865

I found myself travelling to a gig comprising a Numetal opener to a headline of CKY. I also find myself surprised it's not 2003 and I’m not 18… And here was to start my review full of nostalgia and comparing old vs new. The gig was filled with a surprising wide range of ages, and a band synonymous with skating and gaming being relevant today really appealed to that nostalgia after 25 years of music. However, having left the gig I was left confused as to why I wasn’t swept up in a haze of rose-tinted sentimentality. But considering the aftermath, the reasons all come together.
