Don Broco on Nickelback, touring with five albums and their evolution

Bedford rockers Don Broco are back on the road in support of their latest studio album, and with shows coming up in Portsmouth, London and Bristol, frontman Rob Damiani caught up with Erazer to talk about touring with five albums worth of material.

“We’re really excited to play a load of new songs,” he said.

“We learnt a load of album tracks that we wouldn’t necessarily play live. It’s been really fun getting to work them into the set.”

Nightmare Tripping was released in March via Fearless Records, and Rob said this tour will see them play new songs more than any run of shows has done before.

“Now this is our fifth record, there are so many songs to choose from. It gets harder and harder, so we went with what just felt right.”

Although Don Broco staples Everybody and T-Shirt Song will stay in the set, fans will be sure to see a different show than usual.

“There’s some you just can’t not play,” Rob said, adding that when the band supported Biffy Clyro at Finsbury Park over the summer, they omitted T-Shirt Song and received backlash from fans.

“For all those people who missed out and came to that gig, T-Shirt Song has to go into the set on this tour.”

In what Rob described as a ‘dream collaboration,’ Don Broco worked with Nickelback on the title track of the new album.

“It went from a fleeting thought to ‘okay this could be reality’,” he said. “It all happened so quickly. Considering they’re one of the biggest bands in the world, the ease of working with them and their openness to everything was just amazing.”

Despite being regulars at festivals over the summer season, Rob said getting large outdoor crowds, who might not be full of Don Broco fans, involved is tougher than at a headline show.

“It’s so much harder to bring a crowd on side at a festival,” he said.

“They are such a great environment, but from a performer’s perspective, how do you create an environment that brings the same level of energy that you get at a [headline] show?”

With album number five completed, and thoughts looking towards the future, Rob reflected on how Don Broco has changed since its 2008 formation.

“I think we’ve definitely evolved,” he said. “Our first, second, and third records were ‘Who the hell are we?’ We were trying to figure ourselves out as a band and stand out from our peers. Playing overseas more and developing a fanbase across the world gave us more confidence to know who we are.

“Nightmare Tripping was the first album where we tried to set a few more rules, as people have struggled pigeonholing us as a band.”

Don Broco will tour the UK throughout October 2026.
