Brighton Beach is gearing up for another surge of music lovers this July as On The Beach returns with its most ambitious edition yet. What began as a handful of seaside shows has evolved into one of the UK’s most distinctive open‑air music series, a festival without the mud, but a stage on the shingle and the Channel stretching out behind it.
This year’s programme leans into everything Brighton does best: eclecticism, nostalgia, and a proudly alternative streak. Across two weekends, the shoreline will host a run of heavyweight names including Fatboy Slim, The Maccabees, Moby, and Madness.
Fatboy Slim’s multi‑night residency has become a Brighton ritual, part homecoming and part mass rave. The second weekend shifts tone with Moby, whose widescreen electronica feels tailor‑made for an open horizon. But the emotional centrepiece is undoubtedly The Maccabees, returning to a Brighton stage for the first time since reforming after their 8 year hiatus.
On The Beach stands apart because of its setting. Between sets, you hear waves hitting the shore. The pier glows behind the crowd. The city’s nightlife spills straight onto the promenade. It’s a festival that doesn’t ask you to escape, it folds itself into Brighton’s everyday rhythm.
